Pack Smart, Travel Light, Miss Nothing
Punta Cana is hot, humid, and casual. You don’t need much — but forgetting the right things can ruin a day. This packing list is based on what actually matters after years of Punta Cana trips, not generic travel advice.
The Essentials (Don’t Leave Without These)
Reef-safe sunscreen SPF 50+: The Dominican sun is brutal. Reapply every 2 hours. Reef-safe is required for some snorkeling tours. Water shoes: Essential for rocky beach entries and cave tours. Waterproof phone case: You’ll want photos on boats and in water caves. Bug spray with DEET: Mosquitoes are real, especially at sunset. Passport copy: Keep one in your room safe, carry a photo on your phone.
Clothing
Swimsuits (3+): You’ll wear one every day. They don’t dry fast in humidity. Light cover-ups: For walking to/from the beach and casual restaurants. One dressy outfit: Most resorts have a “smart casual” restaurant. Comfortable walking shoes: For Santo Domingo day trips and adventure tours. Flip-flops: Your primary footwear.
For Tour Days
Quick-dry clothes: ATV, buggy, and cave tours get you wet and muddy. Don’t wear anything you care about. Bandana/buff: Keeps dust out of your face on off-road tours. Sunglasses with a strap: They’ll fly off on a buggy ride. GoPro/action camera: Better than your phone for water activities.
